You are embodying the attributes of a spiritual being. The old patterns, beliefs, and emotions are what we call the “human” side of beingness. How you act in the world, what you believe about yourself and others, and how you feel can either be of a spiritual nature or from the made-up role of being human. When you drop old ways of being it is because you are ready to express your spiritual attributes. This process of releasing beliefs, healing emotional wounds, changing destructive and unhealthy behavior patterns is for the purpose of allowing your spiritual attributes to shine through your human form.
When you ask yourself, “How do I want to be in the world? What is alive and meaningful to me now?” you will find your answers represent your spiritual attributes. For instance, if you value feeling unconditional love for everyone it must mean that you no longer want to hate or judge others. Hating and judging are expressions of human attributes. Whereas unconditional love is your spiritual nature. Another example would be: If you decide that the old pattern of wanting others to validate your goodness because when they don’t you feel worthless no longer suits you, and instead you KNOW your own worth regardless of the opinions of others – you are in touch with your spiritual nature.
Do you see how important it is to recognize your internal struggles, traumas, emotions, and behavior patterns? It is not to change yourself to be a better person. The value of this type of reflection is to drop what is NOT who you are, so your spirit can shine in the world.
What you are does not have to be perfected. You already are perfect, as your Creator is perfect. Imagine if you embodied your spiritual attributes who you would be in the world, how you would feel, and how your life would be a living expression of your Divine nature! If this is meaningful to you then examine what no longer belongs in the picture of your new life and let it go, so who you are can shine in this world.
Here are a few reflection questions to help in this process:
- What do I no longer want to feel?
- What behavior and response patterns am I ready to let go of?
- What do I no longer want to believe?
- What is meaningful to me now? What emotions do I want to feel?
- What do I want to be true about myself, about others, and about the world?
When you notice what does not fit your identification as a spiritual being, do not judge. You are being strong and courageous in that moment. Honor yourself and then gently remind yourself that it is present so you can let it go and let your spiritual nature shine through. These reminders are enough. Refrain from doing more. Your willingness to let it go because it does not fit the picture of who you are is enough. It may be helpful to do something loving for yourself while you are letting go. Neither you nor others deserve chastisement. You are all doing your best to be who you are.
